Dental Cleaning

KEEP YOUR TEETH AND SMILE HEALTHY THROUGH DENTAL CLEANING

Oral care can significantly help ensure a lifetime of good dental health and at Barre Dentistry Implants we stress on the importance of undergoing dental hygiene procedures within our practice and daily hygienic routines at home to prevent tooth decay and onset of other dental conditions, such as, periodontal gum disease. In order to receive effective dental cleanings, patients can benefit from dental professionals at Barre Dentistry Implants who specialize in educating patients about practicing at home-oral care combined with regular dental visits.

We recommend professional dental cleaning every six months for removal of dental plaque and stains that cannot be removed at home. Removal of dental plaque is necessary to avoid production of dental tartar which can cause tooth decay and gum disease.

What to Expect during a Dental Cleaning Procedure at Barre Dentistry Implants

At Barre Dentistry Implants, we offer our patients dental cleaning performed by our team of highly skilled hygienists. Plaque and tartar that is not treated causes onset of gingivitis which causes the gums to become red and swollen making them bleed easily. Fortunately, gingivitis is common amongst young adults and can be treated at home with regular brushing and flossing of the teeth while also paying regular visits to a dental hygienist. In order to undergo a thorough dental cleaning, the hygienist will utilize a variety of tools including; a small mirror, scalers with a pointed tip, a tooth polisher, a small water hose and suction hose. Scalers are utilized to gently scrape off the stubborn bits of tartar build up located on the teeth’s surface, between the teeth or below the gum line. Patients are informed about experiencing some discomfort or sensitivity during a dental cleaning procedure. Polishers are applied to the enamel by the hygienist to reveal a smoother feel to the teeth. Following this, the hygienist will perform a professional flossing process to ensure that any remaining bits of plaque are completely removed from between the teeth and below the gum line. Patients are required to rinse away any bits of tartar or plaque within their teeth.

At Barre Dentistry & Implants, we offer less invasive non-surgical procedures which include scaling; the removal of tartar above and below the gum line and root planing used to clean the root surfaces of the teeth. Reliant on the patient’s condition, lasers may be utilized for the removal of plaque and tartar while also prescribing antimicrobial medications for full treatment. Progression of periodontal disease where non-surgical procedures have failed requires a minor surgical procedure where a small ‘flap’ is made in the gum tissue enabling removal of infectious tissue and bacteria from an infected
pocket.

At Barre Dentistry Implants we highly recommend that patients adapt certain strategies to avoid onset of serious dental issues. These include;

AT-HOME ORAL-CARE: — practicing at-home dental care is highly important in preserving oral health. Brushing and flossing teeth twice a day or after every meal helps reduce the likelihood of dental plaque forming. We recommend patients use toothpastes containing fluoride since fluoride strengthens teeth and prevents tooth decay.

HEALTHY DIET: — instilling a healthy balanced diet promotes good dental health. Foods containing only sugar and carbohydrates can cause an increase in the production of bacteria producing dental plaque while foods low in calcium can increase the chances of developing periodontal gum disease. Smoking and alcohol consumption can also affect dental health where development of tooth discoloration, dental plaque, gum disease, tooth loss and oral cancer are common.
