Crowns And Bridges

DENTAL CROWN

At Barre Dentistry Implants, we offer our patients dental crowns for tooth decay, restoration of a broken tooth, a misshaped and discolored tooth. Crowns are fixed dental prosthetics that are cemented onto the teeth. Dental crowns are tooth shaped porcelains caps that are used to cover a damaged tooth down to the gum line. Dental crowns are used to restore the appearance and functionality of the mouth, teeth and smile.

TYPES OF CROWNS AVAILABLE AT BARRE DENTISTRY IMPLANTS

  • Stainless steel
  • Metals including gold alloys or metal-based alloys
  • Porcelain-fused- to-metal
  • Acrylic
  • Porcelain
  • Ceramic

Gold alloys tend to be stronger than porcelain and are highly recommended for back teeth with porcelain and ceramic crowns matching the shade of color to the natural teeth.

DENTAL BRIDGES

Dental bridges, like dental crowns are also fixed dental prosthetics that are cemented onto the teeth. Although, crowns are the solution to restoring damaged teeth, removal of teeth due to severe tooth decay or trauma can be fixed by dental bridges which are used for replacing one or more missing teeth to correct a bad bite and improve a person’s speech. Untreated gaps between the missing teeth cause the remaining teeth to shift into the gaps and cause an altered bite. In some cases, missing teeth can eventually lead to periodontal gum disease or temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. Similar to dental crowns, bridges are also cemented onto the existing natural teeth known as abutments and serve as anchors for the bridge. In order to fill the empty spaces between the abutment teeth, false teeth made of porcelain, known as pontics are created.

TYPES OF BRIDGES AVAILABLE AT BARRE DENTISTRY  IMPLANTS

Similar to crowns, materials for dental bridges include;

  • All- porcelain
  • All-ceramic
  • Porcelain-fused- to-metal or all-metal fused with porcelain-fused- to-metal recommended to restore back teeth needed for chewing.

PROCEDURES AVAILABLE FOR PLACING CROWNS AND BRIDGES AT BARRE DENTISTRY IMPLANTS

Crowns and Bridges are highly effective procedures that restore the functionality of the teeth as well as improve the overall appearance of the teeth, mouth and smile. The procedure involved in placing a crown or a bridge consists of reducing the size of the existing tooth or teeth to allow room for the crown or bridge to be placed accurately  on the teeth. Reduction of the teeth is done by removing a small amount of enamel. Dental x-rays are taken and impressions of the teeth are made to prepare an accurate mold for the crown or bridges which are then sent to a dental lab with the specified dental material requested. If a porcelain crown or bridge is used, the correct shade is determined to match the colour of the patient’s natural teeth. A temporary crown or bridge will be placed to cover the prepared tooth or teeth in order to allow our patients to resume teeth functionality before permanent placement.

HOW LONG DO CROWNS AND BRIDGES LAST?

By practicing good oral hygiene both crowns and bridges can last a lifetime. We assist our patients in selecting the material best suited for their teeth based on the location of the teeth, the aesthetics considerations and treatment costs available to ensure that every patient has a chance to improve their smile.
